Paper News

For his latest project, Pittsburgh-based artist Sam Perry needed a web presence as versatile and dynamic as the undertaking itself. The yearlong project, Paper News: I Am the Printing Press, is a critique of modern media consumption and involves a literary zine, a monthly live talk show, and a collaborative gallery exhibition. In addition to the project’s numerous social media accounts, Sam wanted an online hub around which to center the digital portion of the project.

The result is a website/mobile site with enough flexibility to accommodate new ideas as Sam has them. The blog provides a platform for announcing new aspects of the project, Media curates related images and videos, and Contact allows members of the community to submit their own contributions.

Since QR codes play such a pivotal role in the project, the site also provides Sam with a simple way to create new landing pages that people can reach with their mobile devices. As the online component of a hybrid physical/digital project, the website plays a large part in blurring the line between the real and the ethereal.

To quote Sam: Impulse was able to take my small inkling of an idea and make it into an even greater reality while maintaining a great working relationship that matched my passion for my project.
